Essential Oil infused Elderberry Syrup Recipe

For the longest time I was too intimidated to try my hand at making my own Elderberry Syrup. I had heard so many people talk about the many benefits of elderberry syrup, including it's immune boosting properties. (Seriously, just do a quick google search and do some research for yourself.) I take that fact that I am the gatekeeper for the products and ingredients we allow into our home very seriously and take a natural, proactive approach to our wellness whenever possible.

So, in light of that, I finally took the leap and gathered all the things I needed to make my own to use as part of our families natural immune boosting and ick fighting regimen. Now it should be noted that I am not a doctor nor am I suggesting this is a cure for anything. I am simply sharing something that helps our family.

I used my friend Hattie's recipe and I was so surprised at how easy it was to make! I read it is recommended that adults take 1 TBSP daily and children take 1 teaspoon daily. I do up that to 3-4 times a day when we aren't feeling well or when we feel something coming on.

Because I have a deep love for essential oils and all the amazing things they can do for us, I also added them to my batch for extra immune boosting power.

*Note- I use and am only suggesting using Young Living Essential oils. I do not suggest using any other brand. I know nothing of other brands or how they are intended to be used.

ELDERBERRY SYRUP

Instructions:

Bring the elderberries and blueberries to a boil in 3 cups of filter water. Once it starts to boil, simmer on low for 45 minutes. Using a fine mesh strainer or cheese cloth, strain all the liquid into a glass bowl. Using the back of a wooden spoon, lightly press all juice out of the berries. Let cool slightly then stir in your local honey. Add essential oils. Pour into your glass bottle cool completely before storing it in the fridge for up to 3 months.

Adults- take 1 TBSP daily to boost immunity. Children - take 1 teaspoon daily to boost immunity. Take that same amount 3-4 times daily when sick.

I am really excited to add essential oil infused elderberry syrup to our wellness routine that already includes, essential oils, Ningxia Red (a super high antioxidant drink), probiotics and other vitamins and supplements we love.
